NOISE FIGURE IMPROVEMENT IN DOUBLE PASS L-BAND EDFA USING FIBER BRAGG GRATING

Abstract
A new double-pass long wavelength band erbium-doped fiber amplifier with enhanced noise figure characteristics is demonstrated using a broadband fiber Bragg grating. Compared to the standard double-pass amplifier, the new amplifier improves noise figure of 1580 nm signal by 2.6 dB at input signal power of -30 dBm. The noise figure improvement varies from 1.3 to 2.7 dB at wavelength region from 1570 to 1600 nm at expense of the reduced gain. The corresponding gain varies from 24.5 to 29.5 dB at this region.
