OPTICAL SENSING OF VOLATILE COMPOUNDS USING AMINO ACID THIN FILMS

Abstract
Volatile sensor are a potential analyzing tools which they have a wide application range including food industry, environmental, clinical and military. This paper reports the study on the potential application of amino derivative thin films to detect volatile organic compounds (VOC), 2-propanol, ethanol, acetone and cyclohexane. The amino acid thin film was deposited on quartz substrates by dipping technique. The detection of VOC was performed by measuring the change in the optical absorption spectra of the film using a LED of blue color as light source. The film showed variation sensitivity to the type of VOC and their response was found to be repeatable.
