GAIN CONTROL OF L-BAND EDFA USING RING LASER CAVITY WITH A FIBRE BRAGG GRATING

Abstract
Gain control of L-band EDFA using ring laser cavity with a fiber Bragg grating is demonstrated. The clamped gain can be controlled to be in the range from 7.2 to 14.3 dB by increasing the cavity loss from 0 to 20 dB. The design prevents oscillating light from being coupled out, but it degrades the amplifier's noise figure and gain as the dynamic range is increased.
