COUPLING ANALYSIS OF THE WAVE IN THE NONLINEAR PLANAR WAVEGUIDE SYSTEM

A study has been carried out on the coupling characteristics of a dual waveguide system with Kerr - like medium, in a five - layer planar structure. The previous results obtained in terms of analytic solutions of the fundamental mode in an individual guides in three and four layer configurations are examined and confirmed numerically using the finite difference beam propagation method. It is further shown that the explicit inclusion of guide width and guide separation in the analytic solution for the fundamental mode allows the description of mode field distribution as well as the power coupling behaviors for different guide widths and guide separations. The associated optically controlled logic functions of the system are also demonstrated in three dimensional displays.
