Abstract
Nd-YAG laser of 50 mJ energy and 8 ns pulse width was focused onto quartz sample under reduced air pressure of 2 Torr. A characteristic shock wave secondary plasma was generated. The emission spectra from the plasma clearly consists of the emission lines of H I 656.2 nm (Ha) and H I 486.1 nm (Hb) which are improbable to detect using ordinary laser ablation technique. The hydrogen emission lines of the same quality were also observed from a Sangiran Meteorite found in the soil layer of 700 thousand years old in Java Island. A detection limit of less than 5 ppm was achieved for those H emission lines in this study.
