Brass is widely used in water faucet, pipe etc. in freshwater service, because of its good mechanical properties and low cost. However, Brass contains a toxic Pb and further dezincification occurs due to deterioration of water quality. From environment conscious material (ecomaterial) perspective, it is expected to develop a recycling Pb-free brass with high dezincification resistant. In the present study, recent technologies to develop a high dezincification resistant and environment-friendly brass are overviewed. Furthermore, the new method to achieve eco-brass by removing Pb from scrap brass, addition of a small amount of P and controlling the microstucture of the brass is presented.
