TEMPERATURE AND FIELD INDUCED STRUCTURAL TRANSITION IN LA2-X-YND0.4XCUO4 SINGLE CRYSTAL

The structural phase transition in the La2-x-yNd~0.4SrxCuO4 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2) single crystals have been investigated by means of specific heat, resistivity, and magnetization measurements. The phase transition indicating the structural instability has a pronounced effect on the heat and electrical transport properties. For the Sr-0.10 and Sr-0.20 samples, the low temperature LTO1-LTO2(LTT) structural phase transition is indicated by anomalies in the specific heat, resistivity, and magnetization data, while for Sr-0.00 sample this transition is signified by an anomaly in the specific heat data. The results of this study confirm most of the observation reported previously on similar samples, while clarifying some of the remaining controversies reported in the literatures.
