ON EQUATORIAL KELVIN WAVE IN THE INDIAN OCEAN

The propagation of Kelvin wave with the wind as a driving force will be studied in both linear and nonlinear forms. For the linear case, the solution can be obtained by Green function methods. For the nonlinear one, the derivation of propagation of nonlinear Kelvin wave are obtained using some phenomenological assumptions. We have found that the propagation of Kelvin solitary wave in the Indian ocean can be described by the forced KdV equations. These equations are solved by direct methods. Some aspects of the evolution equation with varying wind stress condition such as the free wind stress, the constant wind stress and the periodic winds stress are also discussed.
